Shekeria Brown is executive director of South Florida Community Development Coalition (SFCDC). With over 16 years of experience in the community and economic development field, she has designed, implemented and assessed affordable housing, community and economic development programs throughout South Florida and has administered over $100 million dollars in community development federal and state grants awarded to local jurisdictions. She has worked with numerous organizations and individuals committed to improving their communities.

At SFCDC, a nonprofit membership organization, she works to have a long-lasting impact by continuing to shape affordable housing and community development public policy, strengthening the role of nonprofits, and encouraging collaboration for more effective community development investment in the region. Prior to joining SFCDC, she worked for an urban affairs and grants administration consulting firm serving municipalities primarily throughout Broward County.

Shekeria holds a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Florida Atlantic University, with a concentration in community and economic development. She also holds dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Mass Communication and Interpersonal Speech Communication from the University of South Florida. Shekeria is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and American Planning Association. She serves on the Board of Directors for the National Alliance of Community and Economic Development Associations, Miami-Dade Affordable Housing Trust Fund Board of Trustees, JP Morgan Chase’s Community Advisory Board and works with various tasks forces and community groups.

Susan Jacobs
Program Manager

Susan became SFCDC’s program manager in January 2017. Her work in fields such as art therapy, education, volunteer management, grant and contract management and nonprofit capacity building has given her a broad background and perspective with which to serve SFCDC and its stakeholders.

Originally from Illinois, Susan moved to Miami in 2010 to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA at Catalyst Miami.  After her service year, she was hired by Catalyst to continue providing organizations with capacity building services and supervise the community learning program.  Susan also worked at Switchboard of Miami as its grant coordinator, working across the organization to provide support in an array of areas. Susan’s work at SFCDC focuses on building the capacity of local and regional community development efforts as well as facilitating mutually beneficial relationships within and across sectors.  She enjoys being responsible for the valuable programming that SFCDC offers.

Susan earned a Master of Arts in Art Therapy Counseling from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  She has earned several certificates including facilitative leadership and advanced grant writing and considers herself a lifelong learner.
